Horse Fencing and Comet's Outpost

Last weekend we finished the cross fencing for Comet's winter area. In addition to some new fencing we ran some hot tape along the barbed wire fence that runs along the west side of our property. Putting up some tape has been a priority to keep the horses away from the wire and to keep next year's calves from climbing through the fence like they did this summer.

I employed Zoe to help me by carrying the plastic insulators, some nails and the hammer in her dog pack. She did a great job and stayed with me along the whole 1/4 mile of fencing. Only a couple of times did she get distracted by the lure of some new scent and ambled some feet away. She's a good dog and takes her duties seriously!

Her is a closer view of her pack. Weighted evenly and full of supplies.

And the outpost for Comet this winter. I feel relieved that he will be closer to the house this winter where I can keep an eye on him. He now has his heated water bucket and cozy new digs. So far the transition has gone smoothly. Bean has been staying with Orion and Comet gets to enjoy his meals in peace.
