In addition to all of the playing and outdoor activities such as walks we also have quieter moments at the Dog Ranch.Each day a dog "helps" me clean the place up. They get to investigate all of the other pods and we spend some one on one time together. It doesn't always make the cleaning part easier but it is nice to have the company.
In the summer there are times when we just hang out in the shade and enjoy the quiet and the peace of the evening. I am lucky that I have furry friends to share these moments with. Every once in awhile we all need to slow down a little.
We also have a special bench in the facility. The little ones especially like to get some lap time if possible or just a little extra attention. I find myself on more evenings than not brushing or massaging a dog while sitting on that bench.
And finally I try to make meal times a prolonged experience for the dogs. It is a time that most dogs look forward to. Being away from home can be a tough experience for a lot of dogs and giving them something to stimulate their minds through food toys can add more excitement to their day. Kongs are a favorite around here but we also use tug a jugs and any other toy that is safe.
